On July 14, 2009, the
floodgates opened as
supporters crowded the public hearing room to urge the Landmarks Preservation
Commission (LPC) to finally designate the former IRT Powerhouse as
an Individual Landmark.
This was the third public hearing on the
Powerhouse since 1979 . The building has hovered in "Landmarks Limbo"
due to opposition from its owner, Con Edison.

Step 3: Contact Mayor Michael Bloomberg via email or call 212-788-3000! At least one news source reports that Mayor Bloomberg would like to see the building preserved and reincarnated as a cultural center. Great idea!
